Strombeek'll See the Hummingbirds Soon Enough
I do want to make it clear that the New Years swirly stuff around the cats' heads isn't supposed to indicate inebriation. (Though once you put a cat behind the wheel, I'm not sure how much difference it really makes.) I was lucky enough to snap a few pictures of hummingbirds yesterday, so I thought they would be fitting with the message of luck. However, the swarm hovering in front of the Land Rover (reflected in one of its side mirrors) only adds to a final effect reminiscent of the opening scene of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. This is purely incidental and in no way suggestive of the sort of adventures one should have in the coming year. Though perhaps the caption should read: No point mentioning the hummingbirds, Louie thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough.
(I realize now that perhaps I wasn't going into the new year with such a positive outlook...)
There's no spare tire on the hood, which is where the message "adventures to spare" came from. I'm not completely sure how this message works with the lack of a spare tire in the pictures. Perhaps 2010 lacked the spare, and the cats are driving into 2011 where everything is going to be fortuitous and amazing. That's why Strombeek looks so crazy. She's just trying with everything she's got to get that beast of a rover into the new year. Hope it'll be a good one!
