What Coffee with Cats is NOT. . .

Coffee with Cats is not a tribute to the coffee bean specially processed by the civet's digestive track.

Coffee with Cats is not a fetish page devoted to the cat cafes of Japan.

What is Coffee with Cats? Keep reading to find out.

The first of the Photoshopped spectaculars, created for my husband in homage of a poster he found in Cairo with a similar disregard for proportion or scale. That's us on the roof. But that's not our real house.

Louie is a Friskies Cat

Louie is pretty excited to finally be initiated into the Friskies club. No more stealth missions to Strombeek's dish. No more lying in wait to see if she'll leave anything.

Miscommunication

I thought I was pretty good at interpreting what my cats are trying to say, but it seems that I can still be way off. For instance, when I first introduced the new corn kernel litter, I thought Strombeek was just shaking herself, something she probably always did but I never noticed. But in reality she was demonstrating her intense displeasure with the "World's Best" Cat Litter. She was like, NOOOOOOOooooooo. I hate this litter SO much! I need to get every trace of it OFF me!"

And Strombeek Prefers. . .

In the bowl to the right is Louie's food--Nutro Turkey & Giblets. First ingredient: turkey gravy.

To the left (in front of Strombeek) is Strombeek's food--Friskies Turkey & Giblets. First ingredient: meat by-product (= race horses). The flash sort of evens out the coloring, but the Friskies has more red chunks. (Again, the race horses.)

Which will she choose?

Weight Loss Smack Down

Louie is doing his best to keep Strombeek active while she does her best to stay put on the chair.

He was whacking at her pretty good before I came along with the camera.

It's Not Fair!

Strombeek seems to be staying steady at close to fifteen pounds. The only thing this diet is accomplishing is pissing her off.

Kick Back

Can one of you explain to me what happened in the backroom?!?

Third Time's a Charm. Or is it?

For the third Weigh in, Strombeek should come in approximately at 14 and 1/2 pounds. She can feel the pressure.

Weigh In #2

After her poor score last week, Strombeek is afraid to look.

Weighing In

Strombeek bows down before the strange baby idol prior to the official weigh in. Please, she says, let me lose weight so I can eat kibble again.

Having a Treat Ball

For the first week of Strombeek's diet, I discontinued the use of the treat ball.

She is supposed to be restricted to 240 calories a day, but she had trouble getting that much wet food into her belly.

Then after the storming of both cardboard castles and burrowing her way into the kibble bag, I decided such determination was worthy of a reward.

1 feline greenie = 2 calories. I limit her to 10. She's got to exert at least that much hitting it around, right?

Stormin' the Kibble Kastle

Since the Cat Castle renovations were proven to be inadequate, it was time to start anew with a fresh castle--The Kibble Kastle.

Louie comes to check it out. Strombeek insists that I've done it this time--there's no way she can possibly fit.

Cat Castle Renovations

The vet said Louie could have kibble as long as I kept it away from Strombeek. I thought some simple renovations to The Cat Castle would make this possible. So I cut off the left side of the drawbridge and reattached it to the wall with a twist tie. Now I could put the kibble inside where Louie could get it while keeping the big girl out.

But with Strombeek, nothing is ever so simple.

Gordita Visits the Vet

Strombeek was quite a hit at the vet. All the vet assistants had to come in to ooh and aah at her bowling ball-like physique.
She looks like a cartoon character!
She's built like one of those good luck cats.
Look how round she is!
Let me see her face. Oh my gosh, she doesn't even have a neck!
